BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU & LIFE

The practice of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu transcends the execution of chokes, joint locks, immobilisations, throws and strikes. At Academy Jiu-Jitsu we believe a true understanding of the Jiu Jitsu philosophy prepares men, women and children for life, showing them paths to a healthier life and the most efficient use of physical, mental and spiritual strength.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

At Academy Jiu-Jitsu we teach and practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a grappling based form of self-defence developed and popularised by the Gracie family since 1925.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu comprises of a series of techniques that rely on leverage and timing. This allows a smaller and weaker individual to control a larger and stronger opponent whilst maintaining not only their own safety, but also that of their opponents.

"Jiu Jitsu is for the protection of the individual, the older man, the weak, the child, the lady and the young women – anyone who does not have the physical attributes to defend themselves."

Helio Gracie

Why Train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at AJJ Melbourne?

At its core, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the practice of problem solving. At Academy Jiu-Jitsu Melbourne you will learn how to stay focused and calm whilst working under pressure. This will provide you with the tools to overcome not only the struggles on the mats, but also the pressures and struggles of life.

Academy Jiu-Jitsu provides an environment where you can explore your strengths and weaknesses and, in turn, you will find out new and exciting things about yourself.

"Jiu Jitsu puts you completely in the moment where you must have complete focus on finding a solution to the problem. This trains the mind to build that focus, to increase your awareness, your capacity to solve problems."
